If you've ever driven past Kualoa Ranch and thought, "Man, that would be a pretty awesome place to get married," you're not wrong.
Most people know Kualoa Ranch for Jurassic Park, movie tours, and those massive green mountains that look like someone went a little crazy with the landscape slider in Lightroom.
But tucked away in the back of Kualoa Ranch is one of my favorite wedding venues on Oahu: Paliku Gardens.
I've photographed quite a few weddings here over the years, and one thing I can tell you is that this place never gets old. The views are ridiculous, the photo opportunities are everywhere, and thankfully, I've yet to have a dinosaur interrupt a ceremony.
Although, that would make for one heck of a wedding album.
Getting Ready at Paliku Gardens
One of the nice things about Paliku Gardens is that there are two spots where the couple can get ready separately.
This makes things convenient when both people want to get ready on-site without accidentally running into each other before the ceremony.
There's a dedicated air-conditioned bridal suite, which is always appreciated in Hawaii. Because nobody wants to spend an hour getting their hair and makeup done only to immediately start sweating like they just finished hiking Koko Head.
The second getting-ready area gives the other half of the wedding party somewhere to hang out, get dressed, and pretend they're not nervous.
From a photography standpoint, I love having everyone nearby. It means less driving between locations, more time capturing those candid moments, and fewer opportunities for someone to forget their tie at the hotel.
The Ceremony: Mountains, Ocean Views, and Everything in Between
This is where Paliku Gardens really shines.
The ceremony areas have these massive Ko'olau mountains in the background, lush green lawns, and views stretching toward Kaneohe Bay and Mokoli'i Island.
It's the kind of scenery that makes my job look easy.
Seriously, I could probably hand someone my camera, point them in the right direction, and they'd get a decent photo. But please don't test that theory. I still have bills to pay.
Another thing I like about Paliku Gardens is how flexible the venue is.
I've photographed weddings here with guest counts ranging from around 10 people to 200.
Some couples keep things small and intimate, while others invite practically everyone they've ever met. Both work here.
Whether you're exchanging vows in front of a handful of your closest friends or celebrating with 200 guests, there's enough space to make the wedding feel comfortable without losing that incredible backdrop.
Wedding Portraits: Basically a Photographer's Playground
Okay, this is probably my favorite part.
Paliku Gardens has so many different areas for wedding portraits that I could photograph the same couple here multiple times and still find something new.
You've got towering mountains, tropical greenery, open grassy areas, winding pathways, and some really beautiful natural light depending on the time of day.
I always try to find different angles and compositions rather than taking every couple to the exact same tree and telling them to smile.
Nothing against that tree. I'm sure it's a nice tree.
But I like mixing things up.
One of my favorite things about shooting at Kualoa Ranch is how quickly the scenery changes. Walk a short distance and suddenly you've got a completely different background.
And when that late-afternoon light starts coming through the mountains? That's when things get really good.
I usually recommend setting aside some time for portraits when the light is softer, especially later in the afternoon.
The best part is that couples don't have to spend half their wedding day driving around Oahu looking for photo locations. Everything is right there.
The Reception: Time to Eat, Drink, and Watch Your Friends Dance Badly
After the ceremony and portraits, it's time for the reception.
Paliku Gardens has a large lawn area with a covered tent, making it a great space for dinner, speeches, dancing, and whatever else the couple has planned.
The open-air setting is one of my favorite things about this venue. You still get that outdoor Hawaii atmosphere while having a covered area for the reception.
And once the sun goes down and the lights come on, the place takes on a completely different look.
As a wedding photographer, receptions are where I get to capture some of the funniest and most unpredictable moments of the day.
Emotional speeches, first dances, family reactions, and that one uncle who suddenly thinks he's auditioning for Dancing with the Stars.
Every wedding has one.
And if you don't know who that uncle is, there's a pretty good chance it's you.
A Few Things to Know Before Booking Paliku Gardens
If you're considering Paliku Gardens for your wedding, here are a few things worth knowing.
Location: Paliku Gardens is located toward the back of Kualoa Ranch in Kaneohe, away from the main visitor activities. It feels private, surrounded by some of the most recognizable scenery on Oahu.
Guest count: I've personally seen weddings ranging from around 10 to 200 guests. Whether you're planning something intimate or a much larger celebration, there are different ways to use the space.
Getting ready: There are two areas couples can use for getting ready separately, including a dedicated air-conditioned suite. Confirm the setup for your particular wedding with the venue.
Photography: There are plenty of beautiful photo locations without needing to leave the property. My suggestion is to allow some time for portraits later in the afternoon when the lighting starts to soften.
Weather: You're on the windward side of Oahu, so a little rain is always possible. The good news is that the clouds and changing weather can make for some pretty dramatic photos. Just have a backup plan.
Parking: Guest parking is available on-site, but make sure everyone has directions specifically to Paliku Gardens rather than just the main Kualoa Ranch entrance.

Final Thoughts From Behind the Camera
I've been photographing weddings in Hawaii for years, and Paliku Gardens is one of those venues I'm always happy to return to.
It's got the scenery, the space, and plenty of opportunities to capture something different every time.
Whether you're planning a small ceremony with your closest family and friends or a big celebration with 200 guests, it's a venue worth checking out.
Plus, where else can you get married with Jurassic Park mountains in the background without worrying about being eaten?
Well, hopefully.

If you're planning a wedding at Paliku Gardens or anywhere else on Oahu, I'd love to hear what you've got planned.
My approach is pretty simple: keep things relaxed, have some fun, and capture the day as it actually happens.
No awkward posing marathons. No turning your wedding into an eight-hour photoshoot.
Just good photos, real moments, and hopefully a few laughs along the way.
